Tongabezi is a luxury lodge near Victoria Falls on the banks of the Zambezi River. It was founded in 1990 by Ben Parker and the late Will Ruck-Keene, pioneers of eco-tourism in Zambia.
Privately owned and run, Tongabezi combines romance and exclusivity with warm and attentive service. Each house and cottage has its own valet who takes care of guests throughout their stay and act as a private concierge.
There is no set pattern to days at Tongabezi. Guests can do as much or as little as they wish, with game drives, bush walks and boating trips all included in the price. The majestic Victoria Falls can be viewed either by boat or private aircraft.
Tongabezi Lodge is a romantic hideaway on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream of Victoria Falls. We offer a selection of houses and cottages, each beautifully furnished using local materials. Guests can dine beside the river or on their own private terrace.
We offer thrilling boat trips to Livingstone Island, where David Livingstone caught his first glimpse of the mighty falls. Guests can also stay on our private island, Sindabezi, an exclusive camp on the Zambezi.
The first of our four houses at Tongabezi, Honeymoon House earned its name because of its perfectly romantic location beside the Zambezi River. It was built with indulgence and privacy in mind – there is a private balcony overlooking the river that provides a perfect setting for a secluded candlelit dinner beneath the stars. Alternatively, you can choose to dine with our other guests on one of the river decks.
Bird House is one of four superb thatched houses at Tongabezi. With sweeping views over the Zambezi River, it has an open-air sunken bath and a private terrace for dining under the stars. Guests can go canoeing on the river, join game drives, bush walks and a boat trip to Victoria Falls. Luxury camps such as Tongabezi provide a perfect base to explore this stunning corner of Africa.
Tree House is one of four unique houses at Tongabezi, each individually designed and furnished with local materials. All four houses enjoy spectacular views of the Zambezi River and have open decks where guests can dine in private under the stars.
Located at the water’s edge and looking out across the Zambezi, Dog House is an open-fronted house uniquely designed and furnished with local materials. It is dominated by a comfortable king-size bed that comes with down pillows and duvet, and a large, airy mosquito net. Like all the houses at Tongabezi, it has a large open-air sunken bath with stunning views over the river. There is a spacious deck for private dining and, in common with all the rooms at Tongabezi, Dog House is assigned its own valet. A perfect setting for a safari at Victoria Falls.
As well as our open-fronted houses, we have five River Cottages overlooking the banks of the Zambezi. Each has a large double bed or two singles, plus a mosquito net and ensuite bath and shower, along with indoor and outdoor areas where guests can dine under the stars or simply sit and enjoy the ever-changing river views.
The Garden Cottage is ideal for a family or couple seeking luxury and privacy close to Victoria Falls. The house is hidden behind a private walled garden and set back from the river. It is the only one of our properties without views of the Zambezi.
